Mindfulness meditation takes on many forms, including mindful movement, walking and even enjoying a quiet moment in the bath. All of these practices are valid ways to meditate.
At its core, mindfulness meditation is about connection—connecting with yourself and your awareness. Each type of mindfulness meditation serves as a pathway to this same destination. If one approach doesn’t resonate with you, there’s likely another that will. Many people struggle to connect with themselves due to the constant barrage of thoughts and sensations vying for their attention. However, learning to navigate this and taking the time to understand yourself can be both enjoyable and essential.
The Accessibility of Mindfulness Meditation
One of the great advantages of mindfulness meditation is that it’s completely free. You don’t need any expensive equipment—no meditation cushions, chakra sprays, or scented candles are necessary. You can practise mindfulness meditation almost anywhere.
You may choose to sit down formally on a cushion for 5 to 10 minutes, or you could incorporate shorter sessions throughout your day. Just as with Yoga or Pilates, where you learn to regularly check in with your body and adjust your posture, mindfulness meditation can help you become more aware of your mind over time. This awareness allows you to recognise when your thoughts drift and gently guide yourself back to the present moment.
The Benefits of Mindfulness Meditation
With regular practice, you can expect to notice results within the first couple of weeks of starting mindfulness meditation. Many people experience a greater sense of calm, an increased feeling of having more time in their day, and a reduction in stress, which is often intensified by overthinking.
